Friends of the Thames is a bold, independent charity dedicated to restoring, protecting, and advocating for the River Thames. As a cooperative network, we unite communities, NGOs, and conservation organisations across the river’s course—from source to sea—ensuring local voices are heard and water quality is held to account. We are founded on the principle that the river and its wildlife deserve both a voice and legal protection, and we are committed to reconnecting all communities with their river through action, science, and storytelling.

The River Thames is 215 miles long and has over 50 tributaries. She provides us with life, she’s more than a river, she's a piece of history, a source of inspiration, and for many, a spiritual sanctuary. Friends of the Thames’ purpose is to address the urgent threats she faces and how we can work together to safeguard her future.
