The Thames runs through our towns, cities, and history. We’re building a movement to protect it for generations to come.

For years, many of us have campaigned to protect the Thames, often feeling isolated in the fight. Thanks to seed funding from River Action UK, we’re forming a new collective—a super-group of river warriors—to unite all who care about the river, from citizen scientists and litter pickers to campaigners and everyday users.

Friends of the Thames will bring together people and groups across the catchment to build a complete picture of the river’s health, from source to sea. By centralising data and campaigning with one voice, we can be stronger, louder, and more effective.

We’re bringing in experts in law, education, science, communications, and events to support this collective effort. Our mission also includes reaching out to underrepresented communities, fostering a deep, lasting connection with the Thames, and ultimately pursuing legal personhood for the river—giving her the rights and protections she deserves.

If you'd like to join us, please fill in the form below or email friendsofthethames@gmail.com. Members receive a monthly newsletter, access to online meetings, and the chance to share data via our upcoming interactive river health map. Help us fill the gaps—and help the Thames thrive.
